 Who Are We?

Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre (DSYTC) is a non-profit, residential, and community-based agency dedicated to helping youth (ages 13-21) and families across Ontario overcome substance use and related issues to achieve a healthier lifestyle. With separate evidence-based programs tailored to the specific needs of young men and women, it is the only Centre of its kind in Eastern Ontario.

 History

The DSYTC was established in 1993 through the relentless efforts of a small group of people, led by Ottawa restaurateur and philanthropist Dave Smith. Initially providing Day Treatment programs, the organization helped hundreds of youth and families each year. In 2010, the Centre's mandate was expanded to include important residential and aftercare treatment services for youth and families across the province.

Our Founder

Raised in Ottawa, Dave Smith learned a strong work ethic at his father’s shoe repair store in Lowertown, alongside his 12 siblings. Born into humble surroundings, his loving Russian-Jewish immigrant parents had settled in Canada and Ottawa shortly before his birth. Their simple dream was to provide a better future for their children. Inspired by a friend's plea for help with their addicted son, Dave was driven to address the lack of treatment facilities for youth in Ottawa. After years of advocacy, fundraising, and persistent efforts, the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre received operational funding from the Province of Ontario and opened its doors on Bronson Avenue in 1993. Today, Dave remains as passionate and dedicated as ever to ensuring that every young person in need receives help.

What We Do

Treatment: We offer comprehensive treatment services, including harm reduction strategies to minimize the negative consequences of substance use, ensuring a holistic approach to recovery and well-being.
